New look at an old comic

Awfu’ Weather from the Northern Looking Glass (Sp Coll BH14-x.8)

One of Special Collections regular visitors and Reader in French at the University, Dr Laurence Grove, is currently working on an exhibition project with the Hunterian Art Gallery, provisionally titled Scotland and the Birth of Comics.

It will feature items from the Hunterian Collections, Special Collections, related items from Glasgow’s museums and possibly even some other treasures from around Europe.

In a blog post related to this project, he has highlighted an item from our collections, which could be the world’s oldest comic: The Northern Looking Glass (Sp Coll Bh14-x.8).
