Using library resources – books, digital newspaper archives, and items from the University of Glasgow’s Archives and Special Collections – this week’s Library Shorts talk will be exploring the contrast between the representation of the actions of the campaigners for women’s suffrage in the early 20th century by the mainstream media and by the suffragettes themselves. In particular, our speaker, Gemma Elliott, will be looking at the fascinating but unpublished memoir of Elizabeth Thomson; a suffragette, teacher, traveller and missionary who was jailed at the age of 65 for attempting to burn down the grandstand at Kelso racecourse.
