The David Murray Book Collecting Prize is now open to submissions from all current University of Glasgow students with an interest in collecting. This can consist of printed books, printed ephemera, manuscripts, photographic material, or a combination of these, with a common theme. We received some great submissions last year and you can read about the winning collection in our celebratory Book Collecting Congratulations blog.
This year we want to hear more about the passions and collecting interests of University of Glasgow students! What do you value, collect and preserve for the future? Why is it important to you?
The prize is in three parts:
- £500 for the winning entry
- £500 for the purchase of an item for the Library
- One year’s membership of the Friends of the University of Glasgow Library
We’re looking for originality, creativity and vision as to how the collection might develop. Think your collection has what it takes to impress the judges?
The David Murray Book Collecting Prize is made available through a generous donation and is open to all currently registered students of the University of Glasgow. The closing date for entries is Friday 16th November 2018.
Read on for brief details on how to enter, or for full details head over to The David Murray Book Collecting prize page: https://www.gla.ac.uk/myglasgow/library/collections/davidmurrayprize/.

Conditions of Entry
The collection must have been owned and put together entirely by the entrant. It may consist of printed books, printed ephemera, manuscripts, photographic material, or a combination of these, with a common theme.
The prize will be awarded at the judges’ discretion and will be based on the interest, originality and creativity of the collection and the persistence of the collector. Age, size and monetary value of the collection will not be relevant criteria. The judges’ decision will be final.
