Library refurbishment update – oil tank removal and new lifts

Work is progressing well with the clearance and preparation of levels 1 and 2. Level 2 is almost completely stripped-out and level 1 is well on the way, with a large oil tank being removed this week. The work is due to take place on Wednesday 19th and Thursday 20th August and will be noisy, as the contractors will need to cut the tank into pieces before removing it from the building.

At the same time, the lift replacement project is running to schedule and we hope to have the two brand new central lifts in operation soon. Work begins tomorrow on our freight lift, which is used to transport books around the building. The noisiest preparatory work will be carried out overnight, between 11pm and 9am to try to keep disruption to a minimum and this phase is scheduled to finish at the end of August.
