The birthday of Scottish poet Robert Burns is commemorated on the 25th January. To mark the occasion, we have a small display on level 7 of the library, next to the enquiry desk of the Maps, Official Publications and Statistics Unit. We focus on one of his most famous poems, a narrative called Tam o’Shanter, written in 1791.
Our display includes a copy of the poem and an annotated County Series first edition map with Tam’s possible merry route from the pub in Ayr to the Alloway Kirk where he spies the witches and warlocks dancing. Come to level 7 to see the map at its full size, and read more about Robert Burns and one of his most famous characters, Tam o’Shanter.
