National Storytelling Week

This is National Storytelling Week (26th January – 2nd February). To celebrate, we’ve found some lovely images from chapbooks in the collection of Lumsden family papers (collection reference DC112). The most important of the Lumsdens was  Sir James Lumsden of Arden. He was Lord Provost of Glasgow from 1866-1869. He was knighted after he acted as host to the Prince and Princess of Wales when they visited Glasgow to lay the foundation stone of the new University buildings on Gilmorehill.

There are a number of Juvenile books and Chapbooks within this collection (reference DC112) published by James Lumsden & Sons which can be viewed in our searchroom.

You can find out more about the University’s chapbooks on our website

  1. Interesting post Carol Ann! If any readers are interested in looking more closely at chapbooks, University of Glasgow Library Special Collections holds over 1,000 examples. To search these titles, and others from Edinburgh Central Library, the National Library of Scotland and University of Stirling, try using the Scottish Chapbooks Search: http://www.gla.ac.uk/services/specialcollections/collectionsa-z/chapbooks
