We are pleased to announce the Library’s current poster display “Maps of Glasgow: Historical to Digital” on the entrance level, in Am Fosglan.
It features treasures from the University Library’s map collection and shows the growth of the city from a small burgh beside the River Clyde to the renowned ‘Second City of the Empire’. It also reflects the development of cartography from the period of copper-plate engraving to the present supply of digital mapping. You can also view the exhibition online.
The Map Collection is on level 7 of the University Library and is the most impressive collection of its kind in Scotland. It includes an extensive coverage of Glasgow and the west of Scotland, with many unique and rare maps of the city. You can ask our staff on Level 7 for help with the collection and a high-quality reproduction service is available.
The display will be available until the end of September.
