In response to the earlier post about the Robert Owen and New Lanark display on Level 7 of the library we just wanted to let people know that we have a collection of Records of New Lanark Mills, cotton manufacturers, here at Archive Services.

Lithographic print of New Lanark advertisement as cotton spinners and manufacturers of fishing nets etc. showing general view of exterior of mills, (early 19th century)
A collection description can be found here which provides an administrative history of the company and an overview of the kinds of material contained in the collection, such as visitor books, school books, letter books, population statistics and sales books. If you are interested in finding out more about this collection or have a specific query about the records please contact us.
In the coming year we have plans to digitise some of the visitor books and make them available online. Watch this space for more information!
