Building a safe, confident future: the final report of the Social Work Task Force - Dept of Health – 15 recommendations, which taken together mean there will be root and branch reform of the profession, were set out in the Social Work Task Force’s final report, Building a safe, confident future.
Climate change: the Copenhagen conference – House of Commons Research Paper 09/87 -paper examines recent developments in climate change and the background to the 15th conference of the United Nations Convention for Climate Change (7 to 18 December 2009). The aim of the conference is to reach an agreement on a successor to the Kyoto Protocol that will ensure global reductions in greenhouse gas emissions beyond 2012.
Economic indicators, December 2009 – House of Commons Research Paper 09/85 – summarises the main economic indicators currently available for the UK, along with comparisons with other major OECD countries for selected indicators. This month’s edition includes the article ‘Making sense of monthly public sector borrowing statistics’.

Putting the Frontline First: Smarter Government - HM Treasury [Cm. 7753] – sets out the Government’s proposals for smarter, more efficient government, designed to release in excess of £12 billion a year
Simplifying Trade Across UK Borders – Dept Business, Innovation & Skills – A Plan of Action sets out measures to boost trade by reducing the red tape faced by businesses at UK borders
Tackling health inequalities: 2006-08 policy and data update for the 2010 national target – Dept Health – an update on progress to meet the health inequalities national target to reduce the gap as measured by infant mortality and life expectancy, by 10% by 2010. It includes an assessment of whether the 70 spearhead area local authorities, which map to 62 PCTs, are on track to meet the life expectancy target.
The work of the UK Border Agency – HC Home Affairs Committee [HC 105] – report expresses its regrets that case registrations at the UK Border Agency ever became “so chaotic” and hopes that the new model for case handling will enable UKBA to resolve historic problems – and cases – and show that it is working as it should.
2020 Delivery Group – Scottish Government news release – the group met for the first time on the 8th to discuss the climate change delivery plan, which includes a target of a forty-two percent reduction in emissions in the coming ten years
Attainment in Higher Education and Destinations of Leavers 2007-08 – Statistical release which contains data on those qualifying from higher education courses in Scotland
Attendance and absence in Scottish Schools 2008/09 – shows results of the recent attendance and absence survey in Scottish local authority and grant aided schools
Creative Industries Key Sector Report – an overview of the creative industries sector and looks at the challenges and opportunities which they face
Mapping Scotland’s Disability Organisations – first report in a series which looks at the research carried out into disability organisations in Scotland and how much influence these organisations have over public bodies
NHSScotland Chief Executive’s Annual Report 2008/09 – report shows progress made in the priority areas across NHSScotland
Court of Justice of the European Union – Press release – the Treaty of Lisbon changes the jurisdiction and organisation of the Court
EU 2010 Budget: Conciliation agreement confirmed – European Parliament press release – the European Parliament’s priorities for the budget have been secured, including funding for the EU economic recovery plan
European Council Conclusion on the exercise of the Presidency of the Council (2009/881/EU) – lays out the changes to the rotation of the Presidency of the Council
European Council decision adopting its rules of procedure (2009/882/EU) – as a result of the Lisbon Treaty, the European Council has become an institution of the European Union. This decision specifies how often the Council will meet and how they should make their decisions
Forthcoming European Council meeting – 10-11 December – last meeting of the Swedish presidency and first under the Lisbon Treaty

United Nations Climate Change Conference – Copenhagen, 7-18 December 2009 – it is hoped that a new global climate change agreement will be reached during the meeting. This will supersede the Kyoto agreement which expires in 2012
