From the 1st of August 2009, your GUID (Glasgow Unique IDentifier) will replace ATHENS for access to databases, e-books and e-journals. Many links to databases will take you straight to our local GUID login page and then into the database itself. Other resources, particularly e-journals and e-books may have a link which refers to: “Institutional login”, “UK FAM”, “Federated Access Management” or “Shibboleth”. You should use your GUID to access them. Select the University of Glasgow as your location and you will then be taken to our local GUID login page. You only need to login with your GUID once during any web browser session, so it will be easy to access a range of different resources.
Students already have a GUID. Staff who currently use ATHENS should register for their GUID as soon as possible to ensure continuity of access to e-journals, e-books and databases.
It may be necessary to recreate settings for saved searches, notes, alerts etc for your GUID.
Further information about GUIDs for staff and students can be found at: http://www.lib.gla.ac.uk/services/library/howtofindinformation/accessingeresources/glasgowuniqueidentifierguid
